The R&A Foundation makes awards to universities to assist the education and development of talented golfers during their course of study and to enhance the standard of university golf. Awards are also made to individual student golfers. In the current year, in excess of £250,000 has been allocated by The R&A for university programmes and individual awards. For 2009-2010, The R&A will be supporting golf programmes at 12 universities and has awarded over 90 individual golf scholarships. Scholars are invited to compete in the annual 54-hole Scholars' Tournament, played in St Andrews in April.
Individual applicants must be in full time tertiary education. They must hold a handicap of plus one or better for men, or three or better for women, or have been selected for a national team or squad. Students studying in the USA will not be considered for R&A scholarship awards. Applications for individual student awards must be submitted on the form below between August 1 and September 30. For full details please click on the banners below.
The R&A is unlikely to include additional universities in this award programme and is moving toward support for individuals instead. For further information contact Alison White, Golf Development Officer at The R&A. The 12 universities in receipt of funding for the 2009-2010 academic year are:
