Sam Bairstow, runner-up in The Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes last month, is among those included for the match with the Continent of Europe at Penati, Slovakia on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 July.
Fellow Englishman Barclay Brown, who like Bairstow came through Final Qualifying to seal a place at The 150th Open in St Andrews this week, is also in the nine-man team.John Gough, who reached the semi-final of The Amateur, has earned his place too. Scotland’s Calum Scott, the 19-year-old from Nairn is the youngest player to be included.In total, four players from England have been selected, three Irish players, one Scot and Welshman Archie Davies. The 2020 contest was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.Great Britain and Ireland won the match in 2016 on home soil at Prince’s and also in 2014 at Barseback in Sweden.Forfar’s Stuart Wilson is the non-playing captain of the GB&I team.
