Talented field seek to make history in Women’s Amateur Latin America

Less than a month before the start of the Women's Amateur Latin America championship, the field is targeting success at Pilar Golf in Argentina from 17-20 November.

The best amateur golf players from South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean is ready and dreams are beginning to take shape for the second edition of the championship, organised by The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation. The players are invited to participate in the Women’s Amateur Latin America championship on merit. The top three players from the last edition automatically qualify and the rest of the field is completed according to the position they have in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR®), which highlights recognition for good performance over the past year.

Major opportunities

All of them will play for the dream to be part of three major championships in 2023 – the AIG Women's Open, The Amundi Evian Championship and The Chevron Championship. All provide a unique experience for any golfer who wishes to become an inspiration for women's golf in the region in the future. In total, 13 countries will be represented in this second edition of the Women’s Amateur Latin America championship, namely from: Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The number of players per country set to be in Buenos Aires are listed as follows: Colombia (nine); Mexico (eight); Argentina (seven); Peru (six); Bolivia and Paraguay (five); Brazil and Venezuela (four); Chile and Guatemala (three); Ecuador and Uruguay (two); and Barbados (one).

University backgrounds

One of the most distinctive features of the Women's Amateur Latin America is the level of players who participate. A large part of the field is conformed of golfers who study and are part of the golf team at notable universities in the United States and other players already committed to joining different universities in the coming months. Among these, the University of Arkansas, Michigan State University, Lynn University and the University of California are some that stand out. The Women’s Amateur Latin America championship presented by The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation was founded with the main goal of continuing to support the growth and development of amateur golf for women in the region. The winner will play alongside professional women´s golf stars from around the world in three majors next year: The Chevron Championship (20-23 April at The Club at Carlton Woods, United States), the Amundi Evian Championship (27-30 July at Evian Resort Golf Club, France), and the AIG Women´s Open (10-13 August at Walton Heath Golf Club, England).
