Argentina's Pilar Golf to host 2025 Latin America Amateur Championship

The Masters Tournament, The R&A and the USGA today announced that the 10th Latin America Amateur Championship will be contested at Pilar Golf in Buenos Aires, Argentina, January 16-19, 2025. The Latin America Amateur will return to Pilar Golf 10 years after the inaugural Championship was held at the course in 2015. Founded by the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the USGA in 2014, the Latin America Amateur Championship was established to further develop amateur golf in South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The event annually moves to top courses throughout Latin America and showcases the sport’s rising talent in the region, and the champion receives an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament and exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open. “We wanted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the inception of the Latin America Amateur Championship by returning to Pilar Golf where it all began,” said Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A. “In that time we have seen future stars and the very best men’s amateur golfers in Latin America compete at the highest level in this Championship. It will continue to go from strength to strength in the years to come and we can look forward to another fantastic golfing showcase next year in Argentina.”

Past Competitors

Notable past competitors include Colombia’s Nico Echavarria and Sebastian Muñoz, Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti and Chile’s Mito Pereira and Joaquin Niemann, the latter of whom won the 2018 Championship. Chile’s Matías Domínguez held off Tosti by one stroke to win the first Latin America Amateur at Pilar Golf in 2015, a field that also included Echavarria, Muñoz, Niemann and Pereira. “It is an honor for Pilar Golf to host the Latin America Amateur Championship for the second time,” said Mauro Misuraca, President and Owner of Pilar Golf. “Pilar Golf will provide a true test for the top players across Latin America.” Opened in 1992 and designed by the Ronald Fream Group, Pilar Golf is home to 27 holes approximately 60 kilometers north of Buenos Aires. The course has hosted a diverse collection of events, including Argentina Opens, Argentina PGA Championships, the inaugural Latin America Amateur Championship and multiple editions of the Women’s Amateur Latin America Championship. It is also home of the Argentina Golf Association. “Golf in our region continues to grow, and we are prepared to showcase the best of Argentine golf next year at Pilar Golf,” said Andrés Schönbaum, President of the Argentina Golf Association. “This Championship has become the most important event for Latin American men’s amateurs and we are excited to welcome the next generation of potential future stars back in 2025.”
