The R&A Foundation | Why Golf Matters
The R&A’s primary charitable entity is The R&A Foundation. For over 20 years the Foundation has provided funding from the proceeds of The Open to support golf projects worldwide, from grassroots to the elite level.
The R&A Foundation awarded grants of £4.7 million in 2022 to support golf initiatives.
These grants aim to advance participation in the sport by providing playing equipment, funding events and contributing to coaching and high performance programmes. Projects which promote the health benefits of golf, women and girls’ golf and golfers with disabilities are also supported.
Our philanthropy team are working hard to provide further investment and broaden the scope of the Foundation. With the support of donors – both private individuals and organisations – the Foundation aims to unlock golf’s potential and create a better future through our sport, working with The R&A’s global partners on projects and programmes spanning five major themes: accessibility, health, heritage, sustainability and talent.
